Recommended Equipment for Online Programmes

Whether you're just getting started or looking to level up your fitness routine, having the right equipment can help you progress to new levels of strength. Here's everything you need to know about the equipment I recommend for my Coached by Charlotte on-demand programmes.

All Coached by Charlotte on-demand programmes are available in a bodyweight format (no equipment) or with any combination of the following equipment: short resistance bands, long resistance bands and/or dumbbells. Below you will find descriptions, images and links to these 3 types of equipment:

‘Short’ Resistance Bands

This type of resistance band is also known as a ‘hip band', ‘hip loop’ or ‘booty band.’ Perfect for targeting the lower body, these bands are ideal for building strength and toning muscles in your glutes, thighs, and hips. These bands are often placed just above the knees to create additional resistance for lower body exercises.

I recommend purchasing a set of fabric ‘short’ resistance bands with a non-slip inner grip, such as those linked here. Non-slip, cloth bands are much less likely to slip/roll down or cause discomfort compared to latex or rubber alternatives. Purchasing a set will allow you to increase the resistance as you progress and vary the tension for different types of exercises.

‘Long’ Resistance Bands

‘Long’ resistance bands are also known as ‘pull up bands’ and typically measure around 200cm (80 inches) in a continuous loop. For this longer length of band, I recommend purchasing latex rather than fabric as they are more suitable for upper body exercises. Purchasing two or more bands of different resistance is recommended so you can vary the load for different exercises. For the majority of clients, I would recommend the following long pull up bands which are referred to as ‘light’ (linked here) and ‘medium’ (linked here).

Dumbbells

Having at least one set of dumbbells will allow you to add resistance to a wide-range of upper and lower body exercises. For the programmes featuring dumbbells, I would ideally recommend having at least two weight options available. Adjustable dumbbell sets are great for home workouts as they allow you to vary the load considerably and take up little space. If you have any questions about which dumbbells would be suitable for you, please drop me an email.
